LANE HALL: BIOGRAPHY

Something very different in transparent watercolor comes out of the Northwest from artist Lane Hall. His works are characterized by a strong, bold use of the medium with crisp images that have exceptional depth of color. This color, combined with tightly and loosely rendered elements, makes his work unique in the world of watercolor.

Lane was born in Fullerton, California in 1962 and moved to the Roque Valley with his family in 1974. His artistic talent became apparent at a young age and his parents made sure he always had plenty of paper, brushes and paint. He was named Artist of the Year at McLoughlin Junior High in 1977. In 1979 he earned the First Place Award in the Jackson County Student Art Show. He graduated from Southern Oregon State College in 1986 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. His professors bought fifteen of his works at the Graduating Student Art Show.

While in college he worked extensively with oil, pastel, watercolor and pencil, but the challenges of watercolor are what captured his interest and inspired him to become a professional artist. After graduation he joined the working world to make ends meet while he continued to develop his artistic skills and style. During this time he was successful in local art competitions and began selling his work on a regular basis. In June 1991 he was admitted to the Watercolor Society of Oregon where he has been a consistent award winner.

Most of Lane's paintings entered in WSO shows sold during the show or while on tour. After seeing his work, Alder Gallery in Eugene and Exclusive Accents Gallery in Medford asked to display his work on a regular basis. Other galleries have also requested his paintings when they are available. With most of his originals being commissioned or selling when they were completed, Lane decided to make Giclee prints of selected originals to expand the availability of his work.

Today some of Lane's originals and many of his Giclee prints can be seen in the Rogue Valley, Eugene and major galleries on the Oregon Coast.
